Kerala magician Samraj has been awarded the prestigious "Merlin Award", popularly known as the "Oscar of Magic", at a function in Hyderabad.
This is the first time that the Merlin Award has reached India in the horror magic (scary magic) category.
Engineer-turned magician Samraj, 58, told IANS that he was thrilled on receiving the award late Sunday and dedicated it to the street magicians of India.
"Without doubt, this award is a recognition of my style of performance. This is a golden moment in my life," said Samraj.
The award was presented by the International Magicians' Society World president Tony Hassini in the presence of about 600 magicians and dignitaries from the field of art and culture.
After receiving the award, Samraj gave a performance to the invited audience followed by a joint performance by 10 world famous magicians.
