In keeping with the government's renewed focus on clean energy through its Friday tabling of amendments to the Electricity Act, gensets market leader Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. (KOEL) has launched five new fuel-efficient products catering to small and medium businesses.
Rebranded now as KOEL Green, the company has brought out gensets ranging from 2 kw to 5 kw in both petrol and diesel versions, its vice president and business head Sanjeev M. Nimkar told IANS here.
"The new brand identity reflects our commitment to serve the market with energy efficient and smart products. Earlier, we had just one product in the small generators category," Nimkar said.
"In keeping with our revamped motto of 'Efficiency Integrated', we have produced these new machines that are 5 percent more fuel-efficient," he added.
The new small gensets can be used even for homes as well as small retailers and businesses.
KOEL Green, which has a 34 percent share of the 200,000-genset worth Rs.6,000 crore annual market, said it was targeting 25 percent contribution from newly launched small generators to the company's revenues over the next few quarters, Nimkar said.
He said the market prospects for organised gensets manufacturers in the country had much improved with the introduction of the benchmark CPCB II European standard pollution norms.
"The influx of Chinese-made gensets in the domestic market has fallen to a record level with the adoption of latest industry norms. However, we see Chinese returning to the Indian market with the benchmark products in another six months to one year," he added.
