Sambia Sohrab, who allegedly mowed down an Indian Air Force officer and injured another army man with his speeding sports utility vehicle, was on Sunday sent to police custody for 14 days by a city court.
Amid tight security, Sambia was presented before the chief metropolitan magistrate's court, with police slapping various charges including murder, criminal conspiracy, attempt to murder and destruction of evidence.
The defence counsel pleaded for bail, while the prosecution sought police custody for 14 days.
After hearing both sides, the judge rejected the bail plea and sent him to police custody.
The prosecution has alleged that Sambia was drunk while he was driving the car on January 13.
Breaking police barricades, Sambia, son of former RJD legislator Mohammad Sohrab, is said to have knocked down 21-year-old Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud, who was supervising the Republic Day parade rehearsals at the Indira Gandhi Sarani on January 13. Gaud was declared brought dead at a hospital later.
The government pleader also claimed that Sambia hit and injured another army man before causing Gaud's death.
Sambia was arrested on Saturday night from the city after being in hiding for four days along with his brother Ambia and father Mohammad Sohrab since the accident.
Police had issued a look-out notice against the trio on Thursday.
