A private school here is suspending classes for a week to clean up after taking flak over the death of a pupil of dengue and another of haemorrhagic shock.
Over 100 parents gathered at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Salt Lake in the fringes of the city on Monday demanding adequate sanitation following the death of two students of the school's primary section on Sunday.
"We are getting complaints despite the fact that we regularly clean toilets. We have to look into it and do the needful. The primary section will be shut for a week and in that time we will arrange for the surroundings to be absolutely cleaned," said school principal Rekha Vaisya.
The primary section will remain shut from August 2 to August 5.
"Individually several parents have told the authorities but nothing was done. But this was a collective effort driven, unfortunately, by the death of two children. Today hundreds came here to express concerns," a parent said.
