The Tamil Nadu government's draft ordinance on resumption of Jallikattu got the Law Ministry's nod on Friday, albeit with a few minor changes, informed sources said.
The ordinance draft has since been sent back to the Home Ministry, the sources said.
Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said his government will promulgate an ordinance to conduct the bull-taming sport that was banned by the Supreme Court in May 2014.
He said the state government will amend some provisions in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The proposed amendments were drafted on Thursday and sent to the central government on Friday morning.
The Home Ministry will now forward the ordinance to President Pranab Mukherjee, after whose approval it will be sent to Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao.
Once the Governor approves it, the ordinance will be promulgated to facilitate holding of Jallikattu in the southern state.
