Portuguese league leaders and title-holders Benfica beat Guimaraes 3-0 in the 16th round to notch their eighth football league win in a row.
Guimaraes started off strongly but failed to breach the Benfica goal, reports Xinhua.
Benfica forward Jonas Oliveira scored in the 13th minute with a header Saturday. Ola John doubled the lead in the 54th with a left-footed effort and midfielder Gaitan secured the victory in the 89th.
Benfica sits at the top of the league with 43 points, 6 points above FC Porto, while Guimaraes sits third with 31 points.
Also Saturday, Porto beat Belenenses 3-0, through goals by Jackson Martinez, Oliver and Evandro, piling more pressure on Benfica.
Porto stands second in the league table with 37 points.
Academica drew 2-2 with Pacos de Fereira.
