West Bengal's Left Front Friday announced Students Federation of India (SFI) general secretary Ritabrata Banerjee as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls next month.
The state's ruling Trinamool Congress has already named four candidates including Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty for the five seats from the state which go to the polls Feb 7.
As per the equation based on the strength of parties in the state assembly, while the Trinamool has the strength to win three, the LF is seemingly assured of one seat.
While the Congress has not announced a candidate so far, the LF has declared its readiness to give its surplus votes if the party puts up an apolitical candidate.
