Let parliament run smoothly: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday appealed to the lawmakers to let parliament run smoothly and allow the food security bill to be passed, informed sources here said.

According to the sources, the prime minister made the appeal while interacting with the opposition leaders during an 'at home' hosted by the president here.

Parliament has been disrupted since the monsoon session started Aug 5 and the government is keen to get the food security bill passed.

The prime minister reiterated his commitment to the bill while addressing the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort in the morning on the occasion of Independence Day.
