Liverpool defender Joe Gomez will miss the remainder of the football season after confirming the extent of the injury he suffered last Tuesday in England Under-21s' 3-0 win over Kazakhstan.

Gomez, 18, who joined Liverpool at the beginning of the season, tore the cruciate ligament in his knee and could be out for the next nine months, Efe reported.

The young left-back left the pitch with 10 minutes to go in the Kazakhstan match last Tuesday in Coventry.

Gomez has played five matches in the English Premier League (EPL) since his move from Charlton last June for a sum of 3.5 million pounds ($5.4 million).
