The Allahabad High Court has directed the Ghaziabad District Magistrate to examine the grievances of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims and settle the same accordingly, a PIL petitioner said on Thursday.
The High Court order came on a Public Interest Litigation filed by S.P. Singh and Harpreet Singh Jaggi on behalf of the Riot Victims Struggle Committee.
The PIL said under the Uttar Pradesh government order number 1,317 dated July 22, 2007, as many as 231 victims applied for compensation.
These included 67 from Modi Nagar, 146 from Ghaziabad city and 18 from Hapur.
Of these, only 40 victims were awarded compensation while the remaining were left out.
"We were forced to file the PIL because the victims were not compensated even after a lapse of 32 years. Now, the High Court has disposed off the case with this order," S.P. Singh said.
He said the court order had been submitted to the District Magistrate on Thursday.
