Maharashtra continues to reel under heat wave

Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra continued to reel under intense heat wave conditions on Wednesday, recording temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius, a weather official said.

Mercury soared to 47 degrees Celsius in Wardha, while Nagpur and Chandrapur were close behind at 46 degrees.

Yavatmal, Akola, Amravati and Parbhani recorded the maximum temperatures of 44 degrees, and Nanded 43 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon, Nashik, Solapur, Osmanabad were next with mercury reading 42 degrees, followed by Aurangabad at 41 degrees Celsius.

The hill station of Mahabaleshwar also witnessed rising temperature -- a high of 29 degrees, which was the lowest temperature recorded in the state on Wednesday.

Coastal areas like Mumbai sweltered at 36 degrees Celsius and other seaside districts like Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg were just a notch lower at 35 degrees but with high humidity levels.
