AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa Friday appealed to her party members to maintain calm and not to comment about the judiciary, its procedures or the judge who convicted her in a corruption case and sentenced her to a four-year jail term.
In a statement released by the party headquarters, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister, who was granted bail by the apex court Friday, said: "I was informed of the Supreme Court order today (Friday) in my case."
She requested the people of Tamil Nadu and her party cadres not to comment about the judiciary, its procedures or the judge who delivered the judgment in her case.
Jayalalithaa requested the party cadres not to indulge in any acts that would defame the judiciary, blame anybody as well as to maintain the law and order in the state.
She said she is confident of victory in her appeal against the Bangalore special court judgment, which Sep 27 sentenced her to four years' imprisonment and Rs.100 crore fine in a disproportionate assets case.
Since then, the party cadres held protests, hunger fasts and demonstrations in Tamil Nadu demanding her immediate release.
