A major fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at the Coca Cola depot here, destroying property worth crores of rupees, police said.
The fire broke out at the depot in Chinhat area of the city, destroying several refrigerating units, crates, plastic items and three vehicles. No injuries to employees have been reported as staff members managed to flee the depot before the fire engulfed it.
More than a dozen fire tenders battled for more than three hours to douse the raging fire.
Lucknow's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) J. Ravindra Gaur told IANS that the depot was used to stock the cold drink bottles that came from a bottling plant in another part of the city.
He also said that owing to several hundred bottles of cold drinks being stocked inside the depot, explosions kept occurring from time to time as firemen tried to put off the fire.
Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
