Mamata condemns killing of Kashmiri Army officer

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday expressed grief over the killing of Lt Ummer Fayaz in Jammu and Kashmir and said violence was "never a solution".

"Extremely saddened at the murder of Lt Ummer Fayaz by terrorists in Shopian. My sympathies with the family. Violence is never a solution," she tweeted.

The body of the 22-year-old Army officer was found on Wednesday morning in Shopian district. He had been shot dead.

The officer was kidnapped by the militants on Tuesday evening from Kulgam in south Kashmir where he was attending a cousin's marriage ceremony.
