A 24-year-old labourer has been arrested for killing his grandmother for refusing to give him Rs.4,000, police said on Wednesday.

Vinay Kumar was arrested from his hideout in Uttam Nagar in west Delhi on Tuesday a few hours after killing his 64-year-old grandmother.

The man told police that he wanted to "teach a lesson" to his grandmother as she had refused to give him the money.

"Vinay Kumar attacked the old woman with a blunt wooden item when she was sleeping. He then strangled her to ensure her death. He later took out Rs.4,200 from the victim's almirah and went out of the house," Deputy Commissioner of Police Pushpendra Kumar said.
