A tutor was arrested here for duping a retired Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Delhi of Rs.3.5 lakh on the false promise of providing a bank job to the latter's son, police said Tuesday.

Amit Kumar, 28, was arrested Monday with a fake appointment letter of a nationalised bank.

Retired SDM O.P. Arora of north Delhi's Rohini filed a complaint against Amit for duping him.

"In his complaint, Arora alleged that Amit approached him about two years back through one Anil Kumar for providing a job to his son in any nationalised bank," police said.

"Amit assured Arora if the latter paid Rs.5 lakh, he could arrange the job. Arora agreed to pay the amount," said the officer.

Arora paid Rs.3.5 lakh to Amit and agreed to pay the remaining amount after getting his son's appointment letter or at the time of joining.

In January 2013, Amit gave an appointment letter, asking Arora's son to join the Andhra Bank in Chandigarh as a probationary officer March 25.

However, Amit kept on continuously extending the joining date.

Finally, when Arora verified the letter, he found it to be fake.

Amit told police he started his career as a tutor. He came in contact with Arora and his son who was in need of a job through one Anil Kumar.

The officer said: "Amit took Rs.55,000 from Arora and with the help of a person known to him, got Arora's son employed with the HDFC Bank. After some time, the father-son duo sought Amit's help for getting into a government bank."

It is then that Amit took Arora for a ride. Amit procured a copy of a joining letter through the internet and handed it to Arora besides visited the zonal office of the Andhra Bank in Chandigarh so the duo believed his credentials.
