A 32-year-old man was arrested here for attacking and injuring his wife with a pistol after she refused to give him money to buy liquor, police said on Tuesday.
An FIR has been registered against the man, Dhiraj, charging him with thrashing, criminal intimidation and harassment for dowry as well as under the Arms Act.
Om Prakash, father of the young woman Aarti, said his daughter married Dhiraj in 2007.
"My daughter used to say her husband always came home late at night and abused her and her family. Many times he and her mother-in-law physically tortured her," Om Prakash said.
Aarti and Dhiraj have two children -- a nine-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy. Neither were allowed to join a school by Dhiraj.
A court on Tuesday remanded Dhiraj to 14 days in judicial custody.
