A man with a dozen criminal cases registered against him and carrying a reward of Rs.10,000 on his head was on Tuesday arrested after a gun battle in Ghaziabad, police said.
The gunfight took place in Tronica City area of Loni in the early hours of the day.
Police said they received information that Anil alias Painda alias Yatendra was on his way to purchase a weapon from Baghpat area.
Police launched an extensive check, and at 2.30 a.m., a man on a motorcycle was stopped for checks.
Instead of complying with the police instructions, the motorcycle rider fired at the police team and attempted to flee. But a policemen overpowered him and took him into custody.
During interrogation, he revealed his identity as Anil alias Painda alias Yatendra, who has a dozen criminal cases registered against him in different police stations in Baghpat, Noida and Ghaziabad.
He said he bought a .32 calibre locally-made pistol from Baghpat, and became the leader of the Harendra Khadkhadi gang, after he killed his mentor Omi Pahalwan in 2013.
Police seized a pistol, a motorcycle, cartridges and Rs.1.25 lakh in cash, said Superintendent of Police, Rural, R.K. Pandey.
