A Giridih district court in Jharkhand on Tuesday sentenced to death a person found guilty of raping a seven-year-old girl and killing her.
The death sentence for Mathura Mahto was pronounced by district and session judge Sunil Kumar Singh.
The incident took place in 2011 at Badidih village in Giridih district, about 170 km from here.
According to a lawyer, Mathura Mahto lured the girl to a jungle and raped her.
After raping her, Mahto hacked her to death.
Helped by his father, Mahto then dumped the victim's body in the bushes.
Bikari Yadav has been awarded two years' imprisonment for helping his son destroy the evidence.
