The Border Security Force have arrested a man and seized gold worth over Rs.47 lakh near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, an official said Tuesday.
The seizure was made Monday at the Hakimpur border outpost where 45-year-old Ziad Ali Gazi was intercepted by BSF troopers with the yellow metal in his possession.
Three gold biscuits weighing about 1,800 grams and valued at Rs.47,52,000 were recovered from the man.
Both the gold and the accused have been handed over to the local police, a BSF spokesperson said.
The South Bengal Frontier of the BSF has seized gold worth over Rs.24 crore and apprehended 38 smugglers so far this year.
