The Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday apprehended a man near the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district and seized gold worth over Rs.22 lakh he had smuggled into the country, an official said.
Arafat Sardar, 27, a resident of Swarupnagar in the district, was nabbed by the troopers near the Amudia border outpost.
"Sardar was nabbed with 830 grams of gold worth Rs.22.08 lakh which he had smuggled in from Bangladesh. The accused along with the gold has been handed over to police," said a BSF officer.
The BSF has seized over 18 kg of gold worth over Rs.4.75 crore and apprehended 14 smugglers, so far in the year.
