A man was attacked and killed by a herd of elephants in Tripura Friday, an official said here Saturday.
Khowai sub-divisional magistrate Samit Roy Chowdhury told reporters: "Bhupendra Debbarma (32) along with his friend went to the forest to collect bamboo. Suddenly, a herd of wild elephants attacked them, killing Bhupendra on the spot".
He added that the friend managed to escape.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon in Western Tripura's Godaibari village, 75 km north of here.
The administration has provided financial assistance to the family of the deceased.
