One passenger was killed and four were injured when three Sikh travellers, dressed in their blue traditional attire, attacked them with swords and kirpans (daggers) after not getting seats in a train, police said Saturday.
The incident took place between Agra and Mathura Friday. The three Sikhs had boarded the Chhattisgarh Express in Agra.
After the attack, the other passengers in the general coach somehow mustered courage, pulled the chain and overpowered the violent Sikhs.
They were handed over to the railway police who arrived at the scene as the train halted near Runukta station.
One of the three Sikhs tried to escape but was soon caught in the nearby fields. The three are from Bathinda, Ludhiana and Mansa.
The dead man was identified as Pratap Singh from Kosi. The injured are Pushkar Lavania from Mathura, Sachchidanand Mishra from Bhopal, and Vidur and Sone Ram from Morena. They were admitted at a hospital in Mathura.
