Man kills wife, daughter in Delhi

A 28-year-old man strangulated to death his wife and daughter of two and a half years and then surrendered to the police here, an official said Sunday.

The killings were reported Saturday at 11.20 p.m. from Adarsh Nagar area of north Delhi, police said. Ajit Kumar threw his wife's body from the second floor of his rented house after strangulating her to death and informed the police about it.

During interrogation, Kumar told police that he killed his wife Shalini, 26, over some family issue. He said since his daughter Wanshika was weeping continuously, he also strangled her to death.

"The couple got married in 2010. There was a strained marital relationship between the husband and wife," said the official, adding a few years ago, a district court had to interfere to settle their issue.

According to the woman's family, Kumar, who works in a hotel in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, used to torture her for dowry.

The woman's family also alleged that Kumar was not happy after the birth of his daughter as he wanted a male child.
