A 25-year-old man was shot dead Saturday by unknown assailants here, police said.

"The victim was involved in the illegal business of supplying electricity through diesel generators in the Gurgaon's Sadar Bazar area. He might have been murdered by rival gang members," a senior police officer said.

"He was shot twice in the head while he was sitting in his car and died on the spot," he added.

The man arrived at Sadar Bazar after he was informed that someone was disconnecting the power supply connected to his generators.

The assailants managed to flee after the crime.

The incident created panic among the traders.
