English football side Manchester City fought back to overcome Everton 4-3 on aggregate and progress to the 2016 Capital One Cup final.

Everton won the first leg of the two-legged semi-final 2-1 at home and made the perfect start here on Wednesday when Ross Barkley fired them 1-0 up after 18 minutes to extend their advantage.

They were pegged back just five minutes later when Fernandinho's deflected effort looped into the net, and Sergio Aguero struck the post as City tried to bring the tie level.

The second half started just as lively as the first, with Everton's Gerard Deulofeu seeing an effort saved and Aguero just failing to connect with a Jesus Navas cross at the other end. David Silva then headed against the post as Roberto Martinez' men clung on.

But their resolve was eventually broken by substitute Kevin De Bruyne, who made a major impact after coach Manuel Pellegrini introduced him to the proceedings.

The Belgian winger brought the aggregate scores level at 3-3, finishing from Raheem Sterling's cross, and then turned provider for the prolific Aguero.

Argentine striker Aguero's header gave City the overall lead for the first time in the tie, and they held on to book their place in the final.

City will now meet Liverpool in February's Capital One Cup final on February 28.
