Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that a second or third place finish at the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) is more realistic than finishing at the top, adding that the team will go for the title next season.
The United manager also asserted that his team will emerge victorious at Old Trafford against Liverpool on Saturday.
When asked about United's chances to win the title, Van Gaal said, "No, maybe third or second place is realistic but I expect us to go for it next season."
The Dutchman goes into the Old Trafford clash against Liverpool looking to make amends following their 2-1 defeat by Swansea City, Dailymail reported on Thursday.
When questioned about the loss to Swansea, the 64-year-old said, "I am sorry, the defeat was my fault. Don't worry, we will win on Saturday."
Van Gaal, who saw his United side beat Liverpool 3-0 at Old Trafford and win 2-1 at Anfield last season, said he expected United to challenge on all fronts this term.
Van Gaal also said that United's fan support was the best in the world.
"Manchester United fans get behind their manager, they get behind their team. That is why United fans are the best in the world," van Gaal said.
