The hairman of the United Revolutionary Front (URF), a militant outfit based in Manipur, has been arrested in Assam's Cachar district, police said on Saturday.
The top leader was on a mission to disrupt the Sangai festival that commenced in Imphal on Saturday, according to Cachar Superintendent of Police Rajveer.
"We arrested the URA chairman Gopendra Singh alias Lalheiba from Kalain near Silchar last evening," the police officer said, adding that he was wanted by Manipur and Assam police in different cases.
"The arrested cadre is a top-level cadre. He was involved in many cases including extortion and attack on security forces," Rajveer said, adding that he is being questioned for more details about the outfit and its plans.
