Manmohan, Sonia, Rahul pay tribute to Nehru

Children's day is celebrated across the country today on Nehru's birth anniversary

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi Friday paid floral tributes to India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary.

"Our tributes to the man who built the foundations of modern India-Pandit Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary," Congress said in a tweet.

Manmohan Singh, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes at Shanti Vana - the memorial of Nehru on the banks of river Yamuna.

As Nehru's birthday is celebrated as children's day, school children withe tri-colour balloons gathered at the memorial to pay tribute.

Nehru was born Nov 14, 1889. He was the first prime minister of the India and remained in office until his death in 1964.
