Maoist couple with Rs 9 lakh bounty on head surrender in Odisha

A Maoist couple carrying a total bounty of Rs 9 lakh on their heads surrendered before police in Odisha's Malkangiri.

Rama Kawasi and his wife Weli Madkami alias Malati surrendered before Malkangiri's Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.

Several cases including murder, attempt to murder, exchange of fire and creating disturbances at the time of polling have been registered against them, said police.

While Rama, who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh, was active in the banned Maoist outfit since 2002, Weli was involved since 2006 and had a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head, said Mohapatra.

The duo was working under the Andhra Orissa Border Zonal Committee in Kalimela.

Rama was a deputy commandant in Boipariguda Area Committee under AOBSZC and her wife worked as an area committee member of Boipariguda Area Committee, said police.
