Global software major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday reported 0.2 per cent sequential decline in the attrition rate to 11.9 per cent during the third quarter from 12.1 per cent last quarter of fiscal 2017-18.

"The total attrition rate, including Business Processing Services, fell sequentially to 11.9 per cent in the third quarter from 12. 1 per cent in the second quarter," said TCS Human Resources Global Head Ajoy Mukherjee in a statement here.

The IT services attrition rate for the last 12 months also fell 0.2 per cent in Q3 to 11.1 per cent.

Though the company hired 12,534 techies during the quarter under review, exit of 10,867 engineers resulted in a net addition of 1,667 new people, taking the headcount to 390,880 by December 31 from 389,213 last quarter.

"Localisation initiatives continue with 2,929 employees recruited outside India, bringing their total to 9,908 from 6,979 a quarter ago," said Mukherjee.

Employee reskilling initiatives, focused on building digital competencies at scale using anywhere anytime access are helping the company to retain employees despite disruptive technologies changing the landscape.

"Our company enjoys best in class employee retention rates," said Mukherjee.

The percentage of women rose to 35.2 per cent in Q3 and the total number of nationalities in the workforce is 131.

"Our philosophy of investing in the people and empowering them is resulting in an engaged, energised and empowered workforce that is central to our success," added Mukherjee.
