A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets on Wednesday was trading 253.18 points or 0.98 percent down during the afternoon session.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also down by 71.55 points or 0.91 percent at 7,766.00 points.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,837.71 points, was trading at 25,611.29 points (at 1:30 p.m.) in the afternoon session, down by 253.18 points or 0.98 percent from the previous day's close at 25,864.47 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 25,889.21 points and a low of 25,532.87 points in the trade so far.
The indices opened flat in the morning session in line with the global cues, notably from the Asian peers and the Wall Street, as investors looked for some early profit-taking after two days of rally.
