The central government has informed the Delhi high court that Quick Response Teams, additional sign boards and private security guards have been put in place to ensure safety of visitors to the National Zoological Park here.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by advocate Avadh Kaushik seeking direction to ensure safety and security of visitors to the zoo.
A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath was informed by the Centre that it has been taking measures to ensure safety of visitors to the zoo and announcements are also being made about what is allowed and what is not.
The PIL was filed after 20-year-old Maqsood was mauled to death by a white tiger in 2014. The man had apparently crossed the barrier and jumped into the enclosure.
The PIL had asked the court to direct the authorities to take steps so that no such incident is repeated in the future.
However, the bench reserved its order in another plea filed by Maqsood's wife seeking compensation of Rs.50 lakh from the authorities.
The government said it has given Rs.1 lakh to the victim's wife and cannot give more.
