Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan was on Monday given additional charge of Manipur following death of incumbent Syed Ahmed.
"Consequent upon the demise of Syed Ahmed, governor of Manipur, the president of India has appointed V. Shanmuganathan, governor of Meghalaya, to discharge the functions of the governor of Manipur, in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements are made," said a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said.
Ahmed, 70, who was battling cancer, passed away on Sunday morning at the Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, where he was admitted last week.
He was laid to rest with full state honours at the Rehmatabad cemetery in Byculla in south Mumbai on Monday morning.
