A key backer of former London Mayor Boris Johnson on Friday likened British Conservative leader Michael Gove to famous Game of Thrones (GOT) character Theon Greyjoy, who betrayed his adopted family for personal gain in the show.
Earlier, Justice Secretary Gove had said his favourite GOT character was Tyrion Lannister, the intelligent, wise-cracking dwarf who is sharp on political manoeuvring.
On Friday, Gove declined to liken himself to a character in the show, saying he didn't want to spoil the plot for his colleagues, The Guardian quoted him as saying.
But one MP, Ben Wallace, a key backer of Boris Johnson, hit back and compared Gove to Theon Greyjoy.
"He is actually Theon Greyjoy or will be by the time I am finished with him," Wallace tweeted.
In the show Theon Greyjoy was raised by a great house, the Starks. But he betrays his adopted family for personal gain. However, captured by rival ruler, tortured and castrated, Greyjoy ends up derided even by his birth family.
The comparison is sparked by Gove's decision to fight for the Conservative leadership, dashing Boris Johnson's dream of leading the party.
Left with little support, the lead Brexit campaigner had to withdraw from the race to become Conservative leader and British Prime Minister.
