Suspicious that his girlfriend was having an affair with another boy, a 16-year-old youth strangled the girl to death in a boy's hostel on the outskirts of Ranchi, police said on Monday.
The teenager was arrested from the hostel on Monday.
According to police, the minor accused is a student of the Rajkiya Tana Bhagat Uchcha Vidyalaya, Sonchipi, around 40 km from Ranchi. The accused was staying at Tana Bhagat Adivasi Hostel managed by the school.
He allegedly brought his 15-year-old girlfriend to the boy's hostel on October 30.
On Sunday night, the accused allegedly strangulated the girl to death. According to police, the accused had a heated argument with his girlfriend and in a fit of rage, he killed her.
No one in the hostel was aware of the girl's presence in the hostel.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
