A woman who accused Gurgaon deputy mayor Parminder Kataria of rape was on Monday provided police protection after she alleged that the missing Kataria was threatening her, police said.
The 40-year-old rape victim on Monday complained to Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk that Kataria and his men were threatening her with dire consequences if she pursued the case.
She alleged that the accused had offered her a flat and money to take back the complaint.
"We have deputed two Haryana policewomen to protect the complainant. She will be under 24 hours security cover," Assistant Commissioner of Police Hawa Singh told IANS.
Police said Kataria, 42, had not joined the investigation.
Kataria was booked on October 24 on charge of raping the woman after promising to marry her.
The woman told the police that Kataria raped her several times in the last six months.
