Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Chandigarh on Friday to inaugurate the new international terminal of the Chandigarh airport.
The prime minister will also attend the convocation of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), address a public rally in Sector 25 ground and hand over keys of newly built flats for the economically weaker sections to the beneficiaries.
Tight security arrangements have been made for the prime minister's visit.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police has ordered traffic diversion on major routes to be taken by Modi's motorcade during his visit. Even ambulances will have to take longer routes to reach hospitals, including PGIMER.
The Chandigarh administration on Thursday ordered closure of all government and private schools across the union territory on Friday in view of Modi's visit.
The Chandigarh Police also rounded up a few Congress leaders on Thursday night ahead of Modi's visit to prevent any protests.
