Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday condoled the death of former Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Om Prakash Mehra.
"Am pained on the passing away of a brave and distinguished patriot, O.P. Mehra. He will always be remembered for his contribution to India," Modi said in a statement.
Mehra spent years in the service of the nation, first in the IAF and then through sports administration and as governor of states.
"My thoughts are with the family and all those whose lives O.P. Mehra touched. May his soul rest in peace," the prime minister said.
Mehra, who died on Sunday at the age of 96, was honoured with Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1968 and Padma Vibhushan in 1977.
