Modi hails improvement in global ease of doing business ranking

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed as "historic" India's jump of 30 ranks in the World Banks Doing Business Report, 2018, released on Tuesday and said his regime would strive to further improve the country's standing.

India's rank has risen to 100 in the latest report compared to 130 last year in "ease of doing business".

Calling the improvement in the ranking "historic", Modi, in a series of tweets, said it was the outcome of "the all-round & multi-sectoral reform push of Team India".

"Easier business environment is leading to historic opportunities for our entrepreneurs, particularly MSME sector & bringing more prosperity," he said, adding the government was determined to further improve the rankings and scale greater economic growth, "guided by the Mantra of 'Reform, Perform & Transform'".

He also tweeted a chart, which showed India's ranking had gone down from 132 in 2011 to 142 in 2014 during UPA's rule while it improved after the NDA came in power. In 2015 and 2016, the ranking was 130 and it improved to 100 in 2017.

"Over the last 3 years we have seen a spirit of positive competition among states towards making business easier. This has been beneficial," he said.

Modi said it was never easier to do business in India. "India welcomes the world to explore economic opportunities our nation has to offer!"
