Modi offers prayers in Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday offered prayers at the Mahabodhi tree in Anuradhapura city of Sri Lanka.

He arrived in Anuradhapura earlier in the day from Colombo.

"PM @narendramodi offering prayers," PMO India tweeted with a picture and video footage.

"Common reverence. PM @narendramodi & Prez Sirisena at Sri Mahabodhi tree in Anuradhapura," India's external affairs ministry tweeted.

He will also visit Jaffna.

Modi is the first Indian prime minister to make a bilateral visit to Sri Lanka after 1987.
