Fallen Kolkata football giants Mohammedan Sporting Club were on Friday demoted to the fourth position in the 2014-15 I-league second division standings for failure to pay the contracted remuneration to one of its foreign players, Genki Nakamura.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a statement that the penalty was decided by world football governing body FIFA, and conveyed to the AIFF. FIFA deducted three points from their tally for the 2014-15 I-league second division season condemning them to lose the third spot.
Mohammedan would now be the fourth best team in the official standings with 23 points. Chanmari FC (25 points) would leapfrog them to third spot.
"Mohammedan Sporting Club have failed to pay the contracted remuneration to Genki Nakamura, one of the foreign players during 2011-12 season. According to the decision taken by FIFA disciplinary committee, three (3) points are being deducted from Mohammedan Sporting Club's tally of 2nd Division League 2014-15 season," the AIFF said in a statement.
"Henceforth, Mohammedan SC are demoted to 4th with 23 points, whereas Chanmari FC (25 points) would leapfrog them to 3rd spot."
