Sussex Police has fined England spinner Monty Panesar for publicly urinating in a Brighton nightclub.
The embarrassing incident took place near Shoosh Club in Brighton at 4.13 a.m. on Monday, the police said.
The Sun reported that Panesar was asked to leave the club after a group of women complained the cricketer was harassing them. Subsequently, he reached the promenade above the club and urinated on the bouncers who were able to get hold of him at a nearby Pizza corner, where he was heard shouting "help help". The paper reported that Panesar has apologised for his act.
"Monty would like to apologise unreservedly for any offence caused," said Panesar's spokesman.
A Sussex Police spokesman said that the left-arm spinner received "a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly".
Panesar's club, the Sussex County Cricket Club, has launched an investigation into the matter.
"Sussex County Cricket Club can confirm that an incident took place involving Monty Panesar in the early hours of Monday 5 August. The matter is under full investigation and the club will make no further comment at this stage," read a statement from the club's website.
Panesar was part of the England squad that retained the Ashes at Old Trafford where the third Test ended in a draw. He was, however, not in the playing eleven.
The 31-year-old has played in 48 Tests and 26 One-day Internationals.
