Samajwadi Party's former chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday rejected the Narendra Modi government's claim on increasing Minimum Support Price (MSP) had helped farmers and questioned it for not fulfilling its promises to provide employment to youth.

Speaking in favour of the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against the NDA government, the Samajwadi Party patron questioned the BJP about its promises committed before the general elections, saying if the Modi regime had fulfilled all its promises, "the country would have progressed".

"If the Central government had given job to unemployed youth, helped farmers and provided facilities to businessmen, the country would have progressed."

The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said the Central government had recently given benefit to farmers through hiked MSPs but they are already facing a bad situation due to inflation as the cost of irrigation, seeds, fertilizers and labourers have increased.

"There is no one who is happy with BJP. Even those who are in the party. People are sad. The government's promise of Rs 15 lakh in the accounts of every countrymen and the job for two crore youths every year was not fulfilled," he said.

He urged the Opposition to pressurize the Prime Minister, saying "I have told him many times, you should also do it. Neither the Central government says no, nor does it do anything."

Giving example of the US, Mulayam Singh said: "America first gives priority to its farmers and that is the reason it achieved success."
