Munim qualifies for final in two categories of AITA tennis meet

Deep Munim of Madhya Pradesh will compete for a double crown on Friday against Maharashtra's Arjun Gohad in the boys singles U-14 event and against Gujarat's Dhanya Shah in the U-16 category of the Sunfeast AITA Super Series Junior tennis tournament here.

Deep beat Anmay Karnataka's Yogesh Devaraj 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the boys singles U-14 event, and he came back to get the better of Kritanta Sarma of Assam 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 in the under-16 event to seal a berth in the final.

Deep and his partner Arjun Gohad of Maharashtra also defeated local boys Rohan Agarwal and Tamoghna Das 6-1, 6-0 and reached the semi finals of the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the girls events,second seed Sanya Singh of Maharashtra beat third seed Renee Singh of Rajasthan 6-4, 6-2 in the under-16 category and in the girls doubles under-16 category, Sanya and Sister Pari Singh beat Paavanii Pathak and Bhumi Shekhar 6-2, 6-2.

In the girls singles under-14 category, Renee Singh will lock horns with Karthika Vijay of Tamil Nadu in the final.

Renee beat Harshita P. Bangera 7-6 (2), 6-3, and Karthika beat Harsshali N. Mandavkar 6-1, 6-1.

In the girls doubles under-16 category, Mubashera Anjum Shaik and sister Mushrat Anjum Shaik beat Kashish B. Bote and Harshita P. Bangera 6-3, 7-6 (1).

Mubashera will also be competing against Sanya Singh in the finals of the meet.
