A 27-year-old murder convict committed suicide by hanging himself from the grill in the high security Tihar jail here, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in cell number 8 of ward number 1 in Tihar's Jail No. 1 on Monday afternoon.
Ravinder, who was convicted in a case of murder and lodged in the jail in July 2014, hanged himself from the grill by using a scarf.
Police said Ravinder belonged to south Delhi's Govindpuri area where he had killed someone.
"He along with two other inmates was lodged in Jail number 1. One of the inmates had gone to attend court proceedings while the other was sleeping when he took the extreme step," said Tihar sources.
The sources said that Ravinder was a habitual offender. "The first time he was lodged in Tihar was in 2004."
According to sources, Ravinder was upset as he could not meet his wife when she visited Tihar jail on Friday.
