The commander-in-chief of Myanmar's Defence Services, Senior-General Min Aung Hlaing, Thursday called for restoring eternal peace and building a developed democratic nation based on peace and stability.
Addressing an over 9000-strong military parade in Nay Pyi Taw to mark the armed forces' 69th anniversary, Min Aung Hlaing urged all the people to cooperate with the armed forces, Xinhua reported.
Myanmar opposition leader and parliamentarian Aung San Suu Kyi and representatives of two houses of parliament attended the Myanmar Armed Forces Day ceremony.
Regarding the nationwide ceasefire agreement between the government and armed ethnic rebels, he called for following the peace making process and formulating a ceasefire eliminating the six- decade old armed conflicts.
He stressed that all ethnic armed groups must be legalised by all means in the achievement of this process as nationwide ceasefire was important for eternal peace.
He pointed out that the Myanmar armed forces were launching a human resources development programme to keep abreast with international modern defense forces and implement the work of raising education standards of soldiers.
He called on the armed forces to develop three main capabilities, namely military capabilities, administration capabilities and organizational capabilities through continuous training from the basic level to strategic levels.
The day was observed with a demonstration involving armoured units.
