Veteran Tamil film actor Nasser says it has been a long-time desire that Nadigar Sangam -- the South Indian Artistes Association -- has a building of its own. He is glad that the foundation for the construction of a new building has been laid here.

The foundation was laid here on Friday.

"Ever since we came into power, it has been our dream to construct this building. Even though we were repeatedly asked about the building by our opposition, we didn't say anything because we knew this would happen. We wanted our actions to speak," Nasser, who is also the President of the Nadigar Sangam, told IANS.

On Friday, actors Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth laid the foundation stone for a new building here.

Actors Vishal and Karthi have jointly contributed Rs 10 crore towards the construction of the building.

"We will complete the building, despite all odds. With the revenue generated from this building, we will make sure the lives of theatre artists are improved. We will also take care of the well-being of all the senior actors," Vishal told IANS.

Nasser said the building will be constructed without taking loans.

"We are wary about the questions that will be raised against us. Hence, we decided to construct this building with our own money," Nasser said.
