Nairobi-bound plane crashes

A Nairobi-bound Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 passenger plane crashed shortly after it took off from here on Sunday, authorities said.

According to the airline, the flight is believed to have had 149 passengers and eight crew members on board, the BBC reported.

However, the number of casualties was not immediately known.

An airline spokesman said the crash took place at 8.44 a.m.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed tweeted his "deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones".
