The second bi-annual Naval Commanders' Conference ended here on Thursday with top navy officers holding discussions on operational, strategic, planning and procurement issues as well as the overall national security and maritime environment, an official statement said.

Navy chief, Admiral Sunil Lanba, addressed the Naval Commanders on various issues including operational readiness, capability enhancement, infrastructure development and human resource management, the statement added.

The commanders also reviewed operational preparedness, training and resource availability with the Navy.

They also took stock of the progress in integrating newly-inducted naval ships into the operational fleet and how they would add to the capability of the Navy.

The three-day meet was inaugurated on Tuesday by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who appreciated the high tempo of operations sustained in the last six months and efforts put in for maritime security and coastal security.

Speaking to journalists, he had lauded the Indian Navy for embarking on the Make in India programme in a big way, and expressed hope that whatever lacunae are there would be overcome soon.
